Today is a wonderful "milestone" day.

Today, LP asked for something he wanted, and meant it.  He asked for nursies and a nap.  He has nursed, and is now sleeping.  He also asked to have his diaper changed.

I did a basic assessment prior to starting anything.  LP knows 22 letters to mastery.  He is missing "A," "G," and "M" to mastery, though he has some idea what those letters are.  He has no clue about "C" and "T" he has, but I didn't ask him about it, so I'm a day behind in the marking.  x.x;;   Sheesh.

I am making pizza for dinner.  I'm looking forward to it.  ^_^

I also heard LP say something quite clearly.  Something I've never heard him say before.  Today, my baby boy looked at me, smiled, and said "I love you." 


Some days, being mommy is the best job in the whole world.  Even when you have to change the dirty diapers.

Well, it looks like I'm going to have to alter the plans I'd made for LP for the next "school" year.  I was planning to do a new letter with him each week, a color every month, shapes along the way, and run with it from there.  At this point, he can identify rectangles and squares, circles, triangles, and pentagons.  He knows several letter sounds, off the top of my head, this is R, K, D, O and "umbrella."  Yes, he brings me the U and tells me "uh-bella."  He recognizes red, yellow, purple and blue on sight, has a vague understanding of pink and orange, and is having a devil of a time with green (he keeps identifying it as red, or choosing red when asked to find green).  By the time the "school" year starts, he may well have a handle on a much more significant number of letters, and hopefully have a few more colors as well.  This does, however, kind of scrap the slow-and-easy approach I was going for.  The speed with which he picked this up is astounding - my parents left here about 10 days ago.  I bought LP an ABC puzzle about two days after that.  This is a basic 26 piece peg puzzle that has pictures under the letters.  He now picks up those earlier mentioned letters and brings them to me, with an appropriate sound - rrrrr for "R", kye for "K", duckie/doggie for "D" and ah for "O" (yes, the short O sound).  So in something like a week, LP has picked up four or five letters and their sounds.  This child astounds me at every opportunity, and i think we may wind up covering each letter and a few words that start with that letter each week instead of just the letters, and focus on numbers and red/green much more than I'd planned.  I was so worried about pushing him, that I was expecting too much too fast, and suddenly? I find that he is already knowing more than I'd planned, and I'm probably actually very far behind because I spent too much time trying to make sure he was ready, and not focusing on what I wanted him to be ready FOR.  9.9;;;  Well, now we make up for lost time, and see if we can get his talking (expressive) up to his listening (receptive).  'Cause right now, I can understand him about half the time.  Anyone else?  Good luck, man.  Good luck.  XD
